You can initiate a transfer from an external bank account to your Varo Bank Account either from within the Varo Mobile App or from the external bank’s online banking website. Transfers of this type, called “ACH transfers”, can take 2-4 business days for security reasons and require verification that you own the external account before you can start. If you are looking to move money quickly you will be better off with another transfer method, such as instant transfers from digital wallets like Cash App, Paypal, and Square (though they may charge a fee).
Initiating a Transfer in the Varo Mobile App
To transfer money from an external Bank Account via the Varo Mobile App, you must first link that account and verify that it is yours. For instructions on linking an external account, go to How do I Link an External Account?
To transfer money in the Varo Mobile App, go to Move Money > Transfer Money > New Transfer and select the account that you want to transfer from.
Initiating a Transfer from an External Bank’s website
While each bank is slightly different, generally you will need to log on your external bank’s website, select external transfers, and add your Varo Bank Account as a new account. You will need to provide the Varo routing number and your Varo Bank Account number, which can be found in the Varo Mobile App under Accounts > Varo Bank Account > Details. If the external bank asks the account type, choose “Checking”.
From there, your external bank will typically send two small trial deposits to your Varo Bank Account, which should show up in your Varo Account in 1-2 business days. When you receive the deposits, go back to your other bank and verify these amounts. Once confirmed, you can then transfer funds into your Varo Bank Account. Typically the money will arrive in 1-2 business days. Note that while most banks don’t charge a fee for this type of transfer, some do, so read the fine print.
